Obituary: Ann Street

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Ann Tillotson Street , 77, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Hospice Haven.

She was born September 27, 1936, daughter of Raymond Curtis Tillotson and Annie Mae Cooke Tillotson of Winston-Salem.

obit_iconAnn graduated from John W. Hanes High School in Winston-Salem in June, 1954, attended The Woman’s College of The University of North Carolina in Greensboro (UNCG) in 1954-1955 and received a Certificate of Stenography. She also attended Richmond Technical Institute, now Richmond Community College. She was married on June 12, 1960 to Robert D. Street, of Valdese, N.C.

She worked for Wachovia Bank and Trust Company in Winston-Salem, from July 1955 until June 1960, Exchange National Bank of Tampa, Tampa, Florida, July, 1960-June 1962 and Archer Products Inc. in Winston-Salem, July 1962 until September 1968. She went to work at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham in June 1986 and worked there until in closed in June 2004. The name was changed to North Carolina Speedway in 1999. She also worked there when it reopened in November 2007 until July 2012 as Rockingham Speedway.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham with Rev. Dwight Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.

Ann is survived by her husband, Robert; and her children, Stephen Bradley Street (Lane) of Rockingham, Sheila Street Niczad (Amir) of Greensboro, and Arthur Russell Lee Street(Karen) of Taylors, S.C.; and six grandchildren, Bennett Jacob Street of Rockingham-Ellerbe, Katelin Pittman of Rockingham, Grace Ann Street of Rockingham, Gavin Kian Niczad ofGreensboro, Emma Mackenzie Kite Street and Ellee Katherine Kite Street, both of Taylors, SC; and her good friend, Brenda Caulder of Rockingham.

She was preceded in death by her father andmother; and a brother, James Norman Tillotson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.

The family has established a scholarship in Ann’s memory. Donations to the scholarship can be made to the Ann T. Street Scholarship in Education, UNC-G Advancement Services, 1100 W. Market Street Greensboro, NC 27410 or a donation can be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy. #1 N. Rockingham, NC 28379.
