Deese files for Soil and Water board

election2014logoTommy Deese of Rockingham has filed for one of two open seats on the Richmond County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Candidates can file for office until noon on Monday, July 7. The filing fee is $5 per candidate.

The board is comprised of three elected members and two appointed individuals. Each elected term is for four years. This year, there are two seats open — those currently held by Jed Lambeth and Jared Gainey. Gainey was appointed to the board to fill an unexpired term. Jeff Joyner, also elected, is chairman and is not up for re-election this year.

The two appointed positions are currently occupied by Patricia Dial and Cecil Robinson.

The division provides programs, technical services and educational outreach promoting voluntary natural resource management and conservation on the private lands of North Carolina through a non-regulatory, incentive-driven approach.

The election for Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor is held on the same day as the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Any questions about candidate filing can be answered at the Board of Elections, 910-997-8253.
