Leak Street High School students were among those selected to attend a leadership through service seminar in Raleigh.

The theme for the institute was “I am character, I am leadership, and I am service,” and focused on preparing students to take active roles in their schools and communities through service learning. Teams focused on team building experiences and character and leadership development. Each school group created an action plan for a service learning project to be implemented during the 2014-15 school year.

Washington Street will focus its efforts on families in need in our community. Leak Street will target its efforts on promoting safe driving among teenagers. Both groups hope to get the rest of their students behind them and active in these service learning opportunities.

Mentors for WSS are Assistant Principal Karen Allen and fourth grade social studies and science teacher Trish McGee.  Christian Vazquez-Lopez, Sanajia Tillman, Sara Darhower, David Cassidy, Talayah Covington and Lizzy Rorie were the students in grades four and five who attended the seminar.

Mentors for LHS are Monica Robinson and Cherie Young. Students participating included Asia Baldwin, Darius Little, Kavon Orr, Tyrone Moore and Thomas Bloomfield.
