Effort begins to recruit 26 youth ages 8-13
ROCKINGHAM — Calling all superheroes. Well, actually the first two dozen (plus two) who happen to be between 8 and 13 years of age.
The Richmond Community Theatre is able to stage the Young People’s Theatre summer program in July and August thanks to a grant from the Rockingham Rotary Club. Up to 13 people in each age group — 8 to 10 and 11 to 13 — will be accepted.
The program culminates on Aug. 1 with a 6:15 p.m. superhero parade from the theater to Cole Plaza and a 7 p.m. original performance at Cole Plaza next to City Hall. Cost for each participant is $60.
The performance is free and open to the public.
Each young actor will make masks and help decorate capes. They will help to create the set and props. In addition, the young people will learn some songs and participate in a slow-motion stage fight.
The schedule of practices begins on July 21, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the younger age group and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the older age group. Click here for a complete schedule.
