To help fund his trip, the Rockingham native coordinated a benefit recital Thursday night at First Presbyterian Church on Fayetteville Road, where he also serves as organist/pianist and choir director, that encouraged donations and offered classical music on piano and in voice.

Tyson was joined on stage by retired maestro John Melvin-Michael Collins, singer Elizabeth Ann Moss, Kacey Matheson on oboe and Angela Chen on piano.
