Police: R’ham man used racial slurs during assault

Authorities on Thursday said a 26-year-old East Rockingham man used racial slurs and slander during an assault on June 21 in East Rockingham.

Thomas Earl Guinn Jr., of Mill Road, has been charged with assault and battery and ethnic intimidation, the latter of which is a misdemeanor. Richmond County sheriff’s deputies arrested Guinn, who was placed in Richmond County Jail on $1,500 secured bond.

Deputies said Guinn jumped on another man, whose identity The Pee Dee Post has chosen to keep confidential, and assault him during an attack on School Street.   

Guinn has an extensive history of being the involved in physical confrontations. He was convicted in January 2012 of assault with a deadly weapon in Scotland County. He also served 15 months after being convicted of assault in 2007 in Richmond County.

Prior to that, Guinn was convicted served three months in prison for another assault.

Guinn is due in Richmond County District Court on July 3.
