Officers with the State Bureau of Investigation carried out two plastic bags of evidence from the home at 102 Aslington St., Rockingham, late Thursday afternoon after a tip gave police probable cause to suspect a meth lab.

A warrant to search the single-story home at 102 Aslington St. was executed by investigators with the State Bureau of Investigation. The search yielded numerous funnels, plastic gloves, rubber tubing and other paraphernalia needed to manufacture methamphetamines.

Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly said a man and a woman were in custody but at 5 p.m. had not yet been charged. Along with the SBI and Rockingham Police Department, a detective with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene, as did the Rockingham Fire Department.

Kelly noted there was no danger to neighbors from the activity at the home, which was cordoned off with yellow police caution tape.

It was not immediately clear if the home was occupied by its owners or renters.

“These young people … get mixed up with the wrong crowd,” said one neighbor.
