HAMLET, N.C. — Jaquan K. Bailey, 17, died Saturday, May 31, 2014.

Jaquan was a sophomore at Richmond Senior High School. Jaquan has played sports all his life, but football was his true passion. He played the linebacker position for the Richmond Raiders starting out at Ninth Grade Academy, leading to Richmond Senior High School.

Jaquan leaves to fond cherish memories his mother, Velma Dawkins, of the home, and father Kim Bailey, of Rockingham; one sister, Kiera Bailey, of Albemarle; two brothers, Daquan Cole, of the home, and Jarrett Mosely, of Portsmouth, Va.; 10 aunts, Tenisha Pearson, Maryann Dawkins and Alecia Graham, all of Rockingham, Travonda Porter and Vercie Dawkins, both of Greensboro, Sally Owens, of Fayetteville, Tiffany York and Shanta Kelly, both of Hamlet; seven uncles, James Dawkins, of Hamlet, Donnell Smith, Anthony Bailey, Danny Bailey and all of Rockingham, Lamont Bailey, of Cheraw, S.C., and William Bailey, of Detroit, Mich.; maternal grandparents Nellie Zimmerman, of  High Point, and James Dawkins Sr., of Hamlet; one nephew, JaTarius Bailey; and a special father, Timothy Cole.

Viewing for family and friends will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 6 at Nelson Funeral Service, 1021 E. Washington St., Rockingham.

Funeral services for Jaquan will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7 inside the Richmond Senior High School gymnasium with the Rev. D.K. Ferguson, senior pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Wilmington, officiating and eulogist.
