Letter: County supports its veterans

To the editor:
June 21 was a hot and steamy day but thanks to numerous residents strolling in and out of Walmart it was time well spent.  The AMVETS Ladies Auxillary Post 316 held a fundraiser that day and also on the 7th of June.  Both days proved how giving and mindful the citizens are to veterans issues.
letter_logoThe events provided an excellent opportunity for the community to be aware of the AMVETS Ladies Auxillary Post 316 and, hopefully, learned a little about what we do for our veterans.  For some, it was a first time learning experience.  The event was also a membership drive to enlist women in the community to become an active part of giving back.  We encourage participation of school age children in patriotic programs as well.  Many students contributed letters to be sent to troops in Afghanistan during our March drive to gather items on a “wish list.”
The success of the events will make a difference to veterans and families.  We are so fortunate to be a part of a community that shares our passion for those who served.
