ROCKINGHAM — Dozens of area residents turned out at Thomas Leath Memorial Library Friday night in downtown Rockingham for the official kickoff of the library system’s summer reading program.
Under a theme of “Fizz, Boom, Read!,” children played on the bounce house and slide, enjoyed balloon animals made by Joy the Clown, whose talent and friendliness was upstaged only by her white dove companion.

Members of the Rockingham Lions Club sold hot dogs, drinks and popcorn and many in attendance perused the available titles in the library’s book sale.
