A few spots remain available for the Energy Ventures Camp at Richmond Community College.
The sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June 23 to June 26 at RCC’s main campus in Hamlet and from July 14 to July 17 at the Honeycutt Center in Laurinburg.
The goal of both weeks is to spark a child’s interest in science. It is intended for rising sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Campers will take part in hands-on activities that make learning about energy fun and interactive.
The camp will be investigative in nature and will explore different energy sources. Students will employ engineering strategies for increasing energy efficiency, solving problems and making real-world applications.
Activities include:
* Making a flashlight
* Touring a power plant
* Making a light bulb
* Visiting the RCC Substation facility
* Voltage demonstrator
* Solar oven experiment
* Constructing an incubator
* Presentation on electrical careers
The cost, which includes lunch each day and a camp T-shirt, is $100. For more information or to register, call Holly Russell at 910-410-1704.
