Dannell Ellerbe July football camp free to youth

Hamlet native and NFL linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will return next month to Richmond County to host the Dannell Ellerbe Football Camp at Richmond Senior High School.

The camp, free for youth ages 6 to 15, is scheduled to runĀ fromĀ 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 12 at Richmond Senior High School in Rockingham. A parent or guardian should complete the online registration process, which takes roughly five minutes, as soon as possible. Jordan Lohman, of USA Football, said registration will close with it reaches approximately 200 participants.

Camp instructors will be volunteers as recruited by Ellerbe’s representatives.

Ellerbe, 28, played a key role in the Baltimore Ravens’ 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII in February 2013.

A month later, Ellerbe signed a five-year, $35 million free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins.

Last season, Ellerbe played in 15 games and recorded 70 solo tackles and a career-high two interceptions.
