5 charged with larceny, shoplifting

Hamlet police catch suspects in the act

Officers with the Hamlet Police Department earlier today charged four women and one juvenile each with one count of larceny and one count of shoplifting after multiple businesses in Hamlet and Rockingham reported items missing.

Food Lion and Family Dollar in Hamlet were among the targeted stores, police said. During an investigation, officers determined the five suspects had already committed larceny from a Rockingham business. Officers with the Rockingham Police Department also responded.

Three Rockingham women — Shakera Jenkins, 22, Courtney Sturdivant, 21 and Ebany Williams, 30 — and Lashonda Jenkins, 20, of Hamlet, were arrested. The juvenile’s name and photo was not released.

A customer in Food Lion advised a store employee that someone had taken  items out of Food Lion without paying for them. The witness told store employees that the same people were now at Family Dollar in Hamlet. Hamlet Police responded and caught the suspects in the act at Family Dollar.

All items that were stolen were returned to the rightful business owners.
