4 Rockingham teams advance in district tourney

TROY — All four teams from the city of Rockingham advanced beyond the first round of the district tournament Friday night with convincing wins at Peabody Park in Troy.

The Darlings, for ages 6 to 8, won 6-3 and will play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Angels (ages 9 & 10) beat Albemarle, 15-0. Mattie Liles hit an inside-the-park grand slam, Breleigh Clark homered while Allyiah Swines and Kenleigh Frye each had a double in the route. The Angels will play Saturday at 2 p.m.

In the Ponytails (11 & 12), Rockingham beat South Stanly, 3-1. Jenna Greene pitched a complete game and Paige Ransom was 1-for-3 with 2 runs batted in. The Ponytails play Sunday – time to be determined.

The Belles (13-15) beat West Stanly, 10-0. Greyson Way was the winning pitcher. The Belles play Sunday, time to be determined.
