A father-son duo plans to bring a gospel singing competition to Richmond County this year.
Leon Paul Jr. and Leon Paul III, of Luap Studios in Rockingham, will stage “Singing in the Sandhills” on Nov. 15 at Cole Auditorium on the campus of Richmond Community College in Hamlet.
The two men were inspired by the success of similar events in other areas and realized Richmond County might benefit from a similar event. Leon Paul Jr. is a member of Renewed Hearts, a popular gospel group. At their studio, they record many gospel singers and groups. That gave them the idea to promote a singing competition for the region as part of the program to give those artists much needed exposure.
It’s an all-day gospel music event followed by a concert that evening featuring none other than gospel music’s best “Gold City.” The day will also feature groups singing all day long and a gospel music talent search that morning, with the winner receiving a recording of themselves at Luap Studios and the winner will also sing on the main stage prior to Gold City.
The Singing in the Sandhills website is expected to go live sometime next week. The website will include all event-related information, such as talent competition registration, booth information, ticket sales and singers also will be able to sign up to participate in the rotation of the all-day singing.
In the meantime, a Facebook page has been established.
