10K run, 2-mile run/walk to benefit community garden

NORMAN — Calling all runners and walkers for the inaugural GNAT Scat 10K run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 in the tiny town of Norman in northern Richmond County, North Carolina. The event is sponsored by PeeDeePost.com and staged in conduction with Norman Fest. Come for the run, stay for Norman Fest!
Here’s what you need to know:
Entry form: Download mail-in entry form (PDF) – available June 1.
What: GNAT (Good Neighbors Around Town) Scat 10K run and 2-mile run/walk
When: 8:30 a.m. start time, Saturday, Oct. 10. Race-day registration and packet/T-shirt pick-up begins at 7:30 a.m. at the church.
Where: Parking at Norman Methodist Church, 118 W. Moore St., Norman, NC

Cause: Proceeds to benefit local community garden that in 2013 donated 18 tons of produce to area food pantries in Richmond, Scotland, Montgomery and Moore counties).
Entry: Mail-in entry only. 10K: $20 entry fee, shirt $18.50 apiece. 2-mile: $10. Entries must be received by Sept. 15 to ensure T-shirt. Make checks payable to PeeDeePost.com. No refunds.
Donations: Additional donations to the community garden are encouraged but not required and can be included with a participant’s entry form and check.
Volunteers: Looking for 2-4 reliable volunteers to help with the event. Time of duty would be from 7:30 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. Then you’d be free to enjoy Norman Fest. Email peedeepost@gmail.com if interested.
The course: Click here for course map and elevation profile. This single-loop, paved road course begins at blinking light in town on Route 220 Alternate, turns left onto County Line Road, left onto Clayton Carriker Road, left onto Capel Mill Road to Norman Methodist Church. Roadways will not be closed to traffic. Yield to motorists at all times. Runners/walkers will be on the left side of the road, facing traffic, at all times (or risk disqualification).

Water stations: Water tables will be at miles c. 2.1 and c. 4.3 and at the finish line (6.2)
Awards: Top 3 men and top 3 women overall for both the run and walk (might expand based on pre-registration by Sept. 15). No awards will be mailed.
Shirts: Purchase of custom-designed, moisture-wicking long-sleeve full-color tech shirts is optional – but very much worth the price! Each shirt is $18.50. Extra shirts are unlikely to be available on race day. No mailing of shirts for those who don’t show up; if not claimed prior to start of race, the shirt and fee both are forfeited and the shirt could be re-sold.
