ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County turned out the vote during early voting.

Between the three sites — Ellerbe Town Hall, Cole Auditorium in Hamlet and the Richmond County Board of Elections Office in downtown Rockingham — a total of 1,649 votes were cast. The primary driver among interested voters seemed to be the two local races, including Peggy Roach and Vickie Daniel for Clerk of Superior Court and seven candidates for the Richmond County Board of Education. For both races, the primary election will decide who’s in and who’s out.
The Rockingham location attracted 89.2 percent of early voters, as 1,471 cast their ballot there while 147 people voted at Cole Auditorium and only 31 people voted at Ellerbe Town Hall.
Primary election day is Tuesday, May 6. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following 16 locations:
