“Fences” opens Thursday at Richmond Community Theatre

“Fences” by August Wison, a compelling and moving drama, opens Thursday at the Richmond Community Theatre in downtown Rockingham.

The main character, Troy Maxson, is a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded as a black man from the major leagues during his prime, Troy’s bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball.

The play runs from May 15 to May 24, 2014. Performances are at 8 pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and at 2 pm on Sunday. All seating is reserved and all tickets are $10.

In the cast, Bruce Stanback is Troy Maxson, Raynard House is Jim Bono, Anitra Ingram is Rose Maxson, Daniel Wall is Lyons, Melvin L. Ingram is Gabriel, Tyrese Clark is Cory, and Ashlyn Davis is Raynell.

Behind the scenes key people include: Ishmael Terry, understudy, Tonya Williams running the lighting board, Brandon Davis running the sound board, Nerissa Davis stage crew.

The Richmond Community Theatre is located at 109 E. Washington Street, Rockingham, NC 28379. This is the third and final production of the Richmond Community Theatre’s 2013/14 season.
