ROCKINGHAM — Observation: May is “Bloomin’ Science” month at Discovery Place KIDS in downtown Rockingham.
Hypothesis: Kids are going to have a lot of fun – maybe the parents, too. Prediction: Children will not only have fun, but learn about science through hands-on experiments in the plant and animal world throughout the months. Experiment: Duration is all month long at the East Washington Street location. Conclusion: Better make sure to get there early!
Discovery Place KIDS in downtown Rockingham will host a variety of scientific events at at the nonprofit museum during the month of May.
Weekend (11:15 a.m., 2:15 p.m. on Saturdays and at 2:15 p.m. Sundays) activities include:
* May 3-4: Catch Nature! Join programmers at the Studio to create your own sun catcher using nature’s materials.
* May 10-11: Happy Mother’s Day. Stop by the Studio to celebrate our wonderful mothers on this special day dedicated just for them!
* May 17-18: Carnivorous Plants. Beware of the venus flytrap! Join us in the Lab as we learn about several carnivorous plants and put some rumors to rest!
* May 24-25: Squirmski. Worms are worth more than their slimy appearance suggests. Drop in at the Lab to observe and learn about how these slippery friends help us.
* May 31 – June 1: Feathered Friends. Chirp chirp! Stop by the Lab to make a homemade bird feeder for your backyard birds to enjoy.
Wonderful Wednesdays (11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.)
* May 7: Plant Stones. Learn all about flowers in bloom and make your very own textured stone.
* May 14: Spring Bitties. Springtime welcomes in new baby chicks and we do too!
* May 21: Plant Pal. What would Spring be without planting something?
* May 28: What’s in a bean? Have you ever wondered what the inside of a bean looks like?
