ROCKINGHAM — Two Rockingham motorists and an adult passenger appeared to avoid injury in a two-car crash that occurred early Tuesday evening in Rockingham.
Heath Wesley, 35, said he was traveling north on U.S. 1 in the passing lane in his gray Toyota 4Runner. As he approached the Plaza North shopping center, a green Cadillac operated by Jackie Havens, 63, was in the roadway. Havens said she was attempting to make a left turn onto southbound U.S. 1.
The two vehicles collided, causing significant damage to the front end of Havens’ Cadillac. Wesley’s SUV seemed to suffer little damage though alignment issues were a concern. Wesley said he was less than a mile from home when the accident occurred.
Havens was treated on scene by paramedics. She declined a ride in an ambulance for further medical treatment, but she told PeeDeePost.com that she had “a splitting headache” and high blood pressure. She said she might seek further medical treatment later if necessary. The adult male passenger in Havens’ Cadillac was uninjured. Wesley also avoided injury.
Officers with the Rockingham Police Department and troopers from the North Carolina State Patrol responded to the scene, along with the Rockingham Fire Department and FirstHealth Regional EMS. Havens’ vehicle was towed from the scene by Joe’s Towing of Rockingham.
