Prizes to be awarded
While it may seem too soon to have visions of sugarplums, plans for this year’s Cheraw Christmas Parade are now underway.
Scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m., this year’s parade will be held on the same day as the Cheraw ChristmasFest, an all-day family friendly event at Centennial Park, complete with Santa Claus, amusement rides, and children’s activities. Fireworks will also be a part of the day’s activities, with the show planned at the conclusion of this year’s parade.
Volunteer parade organizer Gail Paul, along with Mayor Andy Ingram, are encouraging homemade floats as part of this year’s holiday event. While professional floats will continue to be welcomed, churches, schools, local businesses, organizations and civic groups are urged to enter a homemade float.
With the homemade entries, a $250 prize will be awarded in each of three categories: Best Religious, Best Holiday Season and Best Overall. Only homemade or non-professional floats will be eligible for these prizes.
For the contest, a homemade float has been defined as any float not created by a professional float company. Individuals creating the floats may purchase and utilize “store bought” materials in constructing their float.
In the event of rain, the parade will be rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. To sign up your entry for this year’s Christmas parade or for additional details, contact Gail Paul at 843-517-0400
