Amateur radio club January notes

RCARCThe Richmond County Amateur Ham Radio Club met Jan. 10 at the Hamlet Library.

Eight members were present as the new 2015 officers resumed their duties. President Mark Dawkins (KJ4IKQ) led discussion on plans for participation in the national Winter Field Day, changing from group to individual participation, Jan. 24 and Jan. 25, from home stations. Members were reminded about the four courses available (free of charge) which are required for future participation in FEMA activities.

Vice President, Ben (WA4BCS) demonstrated on his laptop a program available for amateur radio operators that enables computerized log-in sheets to replace pen-and-paper cards, with input from other members who are already using this program.

The club meetings are open to any person interested in learning more about amateur ham radio, how to obtain a license, upgrading or renewing expired licenses, or just to see what “ham radio” is all about.

Meetings are held monthly, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month at the Rockingham Leath Memorial Library. Testing sessions are held quarterly; the next one will be held Saturday, March 7, for obtaining, upgrading, or renewing a license.
